World Meeting Planner

Have you ever needed planning an international conference call and had a hard time finding the best time for all participants? The World Meeting Planner is a tool for professionals who need to schedule conference calls across time zones and individuals who want to connect with their family members and friends abroad.

World Meeting Planner allows you to enter names of cities that will participate in your call or video conference. You can pick from a list of more than 40,000 cities. Once you have your locations selected, you will be able to dial times and dates and interactively see what day and time it represents in the other locations. Daylight savings times are accounted for, so you will see the right information for your scheduled date.

Lite version, with basic functionality, supported by ads is also available in selected countries.

What are the differences between lite and full versions?

Table comparing both versions side by side is available at the World Meeting Planner home page.

Why is the app available only on  devices with iOS4?

The application uses some new features that are not available in older systems. Therefore iOS4 is required.

The location search functionality is sluggish on iPhone 3G, how can I fix that?

The search performance may be sluggish on older devices if you turn the advanced search on. Go to the System Preferences on your device, find name of the application (WorldPlanner or WMP Lite) and turn the advanced search off.

Why I can't invite attendees to my meeting directly from the calendar entry?

The program s capable of sending invitations with calendars that support this functionality. At the time being (Oct 2010), most iPhone calendars do not support invitations. This includes the default iPhone calendar, Google calendar, Yahoo calendar and MobileMe. Calendar invitations are supported for example on Exchange calendars, Hotmail calendars and MobileMe apparently has beta version with this functionality as well. The first calendar screenshot below is a Hotmail calendar  (see below for configuration instructions) and second is a Google calendar, both within World Meeting Planner. Hotmail supports calendar invitations and Google doesn't.

How do I setup Hotmail  with calendar and enabled calendar invitations?

1. In Settings open “Mail, Contacts, Calendar”
2. In the Accounts page select “Add Account”
3. Select “Microsoft Exchange” to configure Hotmail access
4. Use your full Hotmail email address in both email and user name fields. Leave domain blank,  enter your Hotmail password and name your account in the description field
5. Use m.hotmail.com as server name

Now you should be able to select services you want to sync (email, calendar and contacts). Tap on Save and check if your new calendar is there and supports invitations.

"The database has very limited useful locations. Tried adding Istanbul and Zurich but cities not found!"

Both Zurich and Istanbul are in the database. The database has over 44,000 locations that include most places with population over 5000. There are two search modes in the app and you can either use ASCII names of cities, like Zurich or Istanbul, or their full names, like Zürich or İstanbul (note the accented I). By default, the program uses the full names. They show as full names and need to be entered as that.

Full version users can update their app to version 2 which fixes this problem. If you use Lite version, and experience this problem, go to your device's Settings, scroll down and find either WPLite or WorldPlanner and toggle the City names in ASCII switch to OFF and then ON. This problem has been fixed in full versiois scheduled to be fixed in future release.

I inadverently chosen Chicago, Africa and Madrid South America! Choosing cities in this app isn't easy.

World Meeting Planner has been designed to support most world cities with population over 5000. This means that there are some duplicate city names like Madrid, Spain and Madrid, Columbia. When selecting participating cities, please make sure that the country code, flag (full version only) and time zone are correct for the city you want to add.

I can't find Boston, St. Louis or CST, but I can find Ojinaga.

You should be able to find Boston by just typing first few characters (or the whole name) to the search. For St. Louis please type Saint Louis. You can create a favorite from Saint Louis and name it St. Louis if you need the abreviated name shown in invitiations.

Entering names of timezones like CST/CDT is not supported.
