GeoKit: Photography or Transit Mode?
Which mode is best for geotagging? It depends on your activity.
Photography Mode collects location data very frequently and with best possible accuracy. It impacts battery life and should be used only when the photographer is actively taking pictures. The actual life depends on many factors like the your activity, the type of device and condition of the battery. In general, it is good for one day of shooting.
In our testing we typically achieve accuracy approx. ±5 to ±10m and battery life of one day. The results may be different in your conditions.
Transit Mode is perfect for taking efficient location updates during transit. For example, a photographer traveling by bus may occasionally take some pictures out of the bus window. For shots like that precision is not important and using Photography Mode would cause unnecessary battery drain. Transit Mode utilizes smart combination of technologies to detect when the device travelled a longer distance or when it stopped and provides coarse, but energy efficient location data.
In our testing we typically achieve accuracy approx. ±65m and negligible impact on battery life. The results may be different in your conditions.
